DIY Projects, Worth the Investment?

The simple answer is NO! Well not monetarily. However, what I have gained through the process out weighs anything that I have paid. You see I took on a huge investment property in January. I knew the neighborhood I wanted, and the reality for me to get in that neighborhood would mean I would have to buy a fixer upper. But that was initially exciting for me. I had always wanted to flip a house. I usually take on DIY projects because I genuinely enjoy them, yet even still, I’ve gotten in over my head. Watch many home improvement shows and you'd believe all you need to turn your house into a Pinterest dream is a YouTube video, a tools, and a weekend. But I learned the hard way that what's between the before and after pictures I posted on Facebook. But even after the blood, sweat and tears (Literally, lots of tears,) I took away so much more......
Teach your self-
Sometimes, a project might also be simple enough that even if you don’t have the necessary skills, you can learn them by watching videos posted on DIY blogs or visiting sites. I actually watched a video on how to install smoke detectors, while it may have seemed simple, I leaned about electrical wiring. Not only did I feel accomplished about learning something, I actually did save money by not having to hire an electrician to come out.
IT’s OKAY to ask for help-
I believed that to be strong meant to be tough and able to face all challenges on my own. I was trying to be flawless and courageous in all areas of my life. I felt proud when I had achieved my goals without asking for help. However I learned that asking for help is actually rewarding. I was less stressed. I was shown the right way to do things. I watched and asked questions as they were doing it to grow rich in knowledge.
Feeling of Accomplishment-
No matter how much money I spent, I feel Accomplished in the fact that I own my own place, I designed it, and I physically did a lot of the work. I feel accomplished in succeeding in a mission. I feel accomplished in the fact that I tried, I failed, but I never gave up.
In the end, there are far more factors to consider when deciding to do a DIY project than whether it might save you money. While money is certainly a factor, just as important can be your time, enjoyment, and skill level.
